Songs I use to increase my serotonin levels

27 August 2021

If I'm feeling as what I can only describe as 'meh', the medicine is easy and possibly the most convenient. Blasting music in my ears or playing it on Alexa in the kitchen brings back the happy hormones in an instant.

After having many conversations with my counsellor, we decided that music should go in my 'toolbox'. It has definitely saved me in many situations, especially in recent months.

I've created many blog post playlists but this might be a personal favourite. Hopefully it gets you up dancing too :)

Stealing Andie Anderson's style | 'How to lose a guy in 10 days'

12 August 2021

I think it's part of my personality trait that whenever I watch a film, I get quickly obsessed with a certain character's style and then find myself on Asos searching up outfits to match. I did this with Kate (Emilia Clarke) in Last Christmas when I immediately put a leopard print coat on my Christmas list!

A couple of weekends ago, me and my family watched 'How to lose a guy in 10 days' and I fell in love with a certain look worn by Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) that consisted of a yellow satin maxi dress. I already own a yellow dress but it's very different, so of course I was on the hunt for another one. I actually went into town a couple of days later and found a yellow dress that isn't the same as the one in the film but I couldn't leave it behind.

But as I love searching the internet for clothes anyway, I've selected a few of Andie Anderson's looks from the film and found similar items for you if you are the same as me and want to copy fictional character's styles.

And if you haven't seen 'How to Lose a guy in 10 days', I would definitely recommend it. It's so funny, a true rom-com and has such cool early 'y2k' style.

This yellow dress. I think we need to take a moment to appreciate the back detail!! The look is iconic and even more iconic as it's on the DVD poster. I found a few similar styles that are very Andie Anderson esque, styled with a messy low bun and a mini bag that could probably only fit a lipgloss.

Sometimes less is more. Andie pulls off the Calvin Klein-ad style well and the outfit is pretty simple to recreate.

I love these shorts! I couldn't find ones exactly like Andie's but these are probably the next best thing. They are so different to your usual denim shorts but still a simple outfit, paired with a basic top.

Which outfit is your favourite?

A list of small things I love

2 August 2021

The smell of 'Summer' in the evenings. The smell of rain and the sight of a rainbow. The bright yellow colour of sunflowers. Walking through the fields at sunset. Placing my hands to heart centre at the end of a yoga session. Laying in the garden and feeling the grass between my fingers. The first taste of mint chocolate ice cream after fancying one all day. When the sea is like a millpond. Picking my outfit the night before. Playing 80s songs and dancing to Whitney Houston in the kitchen. Long car drives. The pastel pinks in a summer evening sky. When my favourite dress is out of the wash. Ticking off that last bit of work on my to-do list. The feeling of a free weekend. Maisie Peters on the radio. Forgetting to check my phone. Waking up to blue sky and the sun beaming through the cracks of my blinds. The sound of the sea crashing against the rocks. Having the back door open and feeling the fresh, mild air. Hearing laughter. Laughing. A clean room.  A tidy mind. Writing how I feel. Wearing colour. Stargazing and seeing the moon through the telescope. Waking up early and realising it's not a school day. Listening to a song I haven't heard in years. Taking photos. Clean sheets. When Harry Styles is first on shuffle. Walking barefoot in the sand. Feeling the sun on my face. Being with my favourite people. Love.
