How to style the knitted vest

23 February 2021

Knitted vests. The 70s are back again!

They are pretty much everywhere now and yet again, I've jumped on the bandwagon and bought a few for myself. So I thought I would share a few ways on how I would style them. I think they're so versatile, as you can wear them in summer on their own or with a t-shirt and in the winter with a turtleneck; perfect for layering!

Striped vest- Urban Gal but was originally sold by Zara

Striped top- New Look

Cream turtleneck- Bershka

Purple top- Stradivarious

Flares- Topshop

1. The turtleneck

I've been wearing a turtleneck under my vests these past few weeks and I feel like it's the perfect way to add an extra layer of warmth and still feel like you look 'put together' at the same time. Especially in lockdown and more specifically a lockdown in winter, you want to be warm and comfortable. This combination ticks both those boxes. If the vest is plain, I love pairing it with a long sleeve top that has more pattern and colour to it to add more to my outfit. I also wear any of my jeans with it but my flares are still up there as a firm favourite!

2. The t-shirt

Such a spring outfit that I can't wait to wear, with the knitted vest over the top if the breeze picks up and for those days that are still a bit chilly. Still with a pair of jeans and trainers for a casual look. Although I tried one of my vests on the other day with a white t-shirt that I already have in my wardrobe and it didn't look how I envisioned haha. Only because it was a regular size and not oversized so the sleeves looked too short and kind of pointless. I think oversized t-shirts are a good staple to have in your wardrobe anyway so will definitely be stocking up on those for Spring.

3. Over the top of a dress

I'm picturing maybe a shirt midi/maxi dress with a knitted vest over the top and a pair of trainers to give a bit more of a feminine look, if that's your thing. I will probably always be in my trainers though, until they find me a shoe more comfortable. Slippers are a no-go. I've seen knitted vests with ties at the side which would look better with a dress than the ones I'm wearing in these photos as you would be able to see the dress through the sides! This will break it up the outfit a bit more and look more flattering.

4. On it's own

I can't wait to wear this rainbow striped vest (pictured above) on it's own with a pair of jeans, shorts or any of my midi skirts when the weather gets warmer and no layering is needed. I feel like this vest gives all the Summer and positive vibes we need, especially when the future is looking bright too. Although you wouldn't be able to wear every knitted vest on their own, unless you like the look of everything being a bit on show!

Now we know the world is going to pick up again in Summer (hopefully), it makes getting dressed even the more exciting and I can't wait to wear my clothes to events with people, actual people and not just having it's debut on my Instagram! It also means all the more photo opportunities.

Have you bought into the knitted vest trend yet?
